If your dimpled thighs are the bane of your beautiful life, and you’ve tried everything from drinking water to body brushing, it’s time for something a little different.
Cellulite affects about 80 percent of us and most of us would gladly give our right and left buttock to be free of it. Hot hods, from Jennifer Aniston to Madonna, who manage to flaunt dimple-free thighs are all yoga devotees. According to a study at the Mind Body Medical Institute in the US, yoga boosts lymph activity, and tones the muscles, and is traditionally believed to stimulate fluid retention and toxins.
Dynamic yoga will get your heart rate up and can help you lose weight. Longer-held postures will help to tone you up without building bulk. Practise the following yoga moves three times a week for six to eight weeks and watch those dimples fade, to make way for that lifted ”yoga butt” to become a beautiful woman.
Great for toning and bringing fresh blood to your beautiful thighs. Cross your right arm over your left, above the elbow. If possible, bring your lower right arm round in front of your left, bringing palms together. Lift right leg and cross right thigh over your left, above the knee. Tuck your right toes behind your left calf. Sink downwards. Release and repeat twice on each leg.
Oxygenate your blood, and tone your thighs and glutes (butt muscles)
- Stand with feet together. Inhale and bring your arms up overhead. Exhale and fold forwards, placing your hands on either side of your feet.
- Step left foot back to a lunge; bring your arms up overhead, breathing in deeply. Stay for 30 seconds to a minute.
- To come up, inhale, straighten the right knee. Turn feet forward and release arms. Then turn the feet to the left and repeat on other side.
Tones the fronts of your beautiful thighs and your beautiful bottom. Stand upright, bend your right knee and hold the inside edge of your right foot with your right hand. Push your right foot up and back into your hand. Slowly tilt your upper body forward while reaching your left arm out in front of you. Hold for five to 10 deep breaths before returning to the starting position. Repeat twice on each leg.
Stimulates circulation in your abdomen and digestive organs. Strengthens your beautiful glutes and hamstrings. Lie face down with your arms at your side, palms up. Inhale and raise your head, chest, legs and arms as high as is comfortable. Hold for five breaths, then release. Repeat three times.
Improves lymph flow and circulation of blood back to your heart. Lie on your back with your arms by your sides. Bend your knees and rock your Legs back towards your head so your spine rolls off the floor, placing your hands under your hips to support them, keeping your elbows on the floor. Raise your legs. Hold for eight to 10 breaths, then place your arms flat at your sides and slowly roll back down to the starting position.
WHAT IT DOES This is an alternative for those who can’t manage the half shoulder stand, anyone with a neck problem or during menstruation, when the shoulder stand is contraindicated. It drains excess fluid from the lower legs, so it’s good for people with puffy ankles and calf cellulite. Lie on your back. Rest legs at a right angle up a wall with your bottom close up against it. Close your eyes and relax for eight to 10 breaths.
Eat To Beat Cellulite
Foods that are rich in nutrients such as lecithin, essential fatty acids, amino acids and antioxidants, help beat water retention, reduce cellular inflammation and increase circulation deep in our beautiful skin cells, says dermatologist Dr Howard Murad, the author of The Cellulite Solution. This helps to strengthen cell membranes and prevents fat from migrating to the surface. You also have to stick to a low-fat diet; avoid fried foods, alcohol, sugary fizzy drinks and full-fat cheeses. Instead stock your fridge with the following foods and drink lots of water to help flush out the toxins.
- Eggs, cauliflower, soy products and peanut butter are all rich in lecithin.
- Nuts, seeds and flaxseed, olive and canola oils provide essential fatty acids.
- Oily fish are also a good source of essential fatty acids.
- Berries, pomegranates and citrus fruits are rich in antioxidants, while green tea, red grapes and wholegrain cereals contain polyphenols.
- Broccoli, spinach and beans contain the anti-inflammatory alpha-lipoic acid.
- Sweet potatoes and carrots are rich in vitamin A, which helps repair body tissues.
